                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE STATE FOUNDATION ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1           SECTION 1.  Section 103-8.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes,
 
 2 is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(b)  The works of art special fund shall be used solely for
 
 4 the following purposes:
 
 5      (1)  Costs related to the acquisition of works of art,
 
 6           including any consultant or staff services required to
 
 7           carry out the art in public places or relocatable works
 
 8           of art programs;
 
 9      (2)  Site modifications, display, and interpretive work
 
10           necessary for the exhibition of works of art;
 
11      (3)  Upkeep services, including maintenance, repair, and
 
12           restoration of works of art;
 
13      (4)  Storing and transporting works of art;
 
14      (5)  Reviewing, revising, and completing the Hawaii content
 
15           and performance standards in the arts for all K-12
 
16           grade students; [and]
 
17      (6)  Developing a statewide strategic plan for grades K-12
 
18           arts education that incorporates and integrates the
 
19           arts content and performance standards established in

 1           paragraph (5)[.]; and
 
 2      (7)  Up to $300,000 a year as approved by the state
 
 3           foundation on culture and the arts commissioners for:
 
 4           (A)  performing arts, including dance, theater, music,
 
 5                and opera; and
 
 6           (B)  administrative expenses."
 
 7      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
 8 New statutory material is underscored.
 
 9      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2000.
