                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to exempt the
 
 2 University of Hawaii at Hilo from supporting the University of
 
 3 Hawaii housing assistance revolving fund.  The legislature
 
 4 believes that the exemption will free University of Hawaii at
 
 5 Hilo revenues to be utilized for programmatic expenditure at the
 
 6 University of Hawaii at Hilo.
 
 7      SECTION 2.  Section 304-8.96, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 8 amended to read as follows:
 
 9      "(a)  There is established a housing assistance revolving
 
10 fund into which shall be deposited twelve per cent of the total
 
11 indirect overhead funds generated by the university, but not
 
12 including the University of Hawaii at Hilo, for research and
 
13 training purposes in the prior fiscal year.  The fund shall be
 
14 used to:
 
15      (1)  Implement the University of Hawaii housing assistance
 
16           master plan, in accordance with policies adopted by the
 
17           board of regents; and
 
18      (2)  Account for all transactions of the university housing
 
19           assistance program, including but not limited to

 1           revenues, expenditures, loans, and transfers."
 
 2      SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
 3      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2000.
