                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO HUNTING.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 183D-4, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(b)  For the purposes of this section:
 
 4      "Game management area" means an area so designated by either
 
 5 executive order, rule, cooperative agreement, or action of the
 
 6 board of land and natural resources that has been set aside for
 
 7 the primary purpose of managing, sustaining, and enhancing
 
 8 habitat and populations of game mammals and/or game birds, and
 
 9 providing public hunting and, secondarily, other compatible uses.
 
10      "Public hunting area" means those lands designated by the
 
11 board of land and natural resources as areas where the public may
 
12 hunt game birds and mammals[.], including:
 
13      (1)  Game management areas;
 
14      (2)  Forest reserves and surrendered lands;
 
15      (3)  Natural area reserves;
 
16      (4)  Restricted watersheds;
 
17      (5)  Cooperative game management areas;
 
18      (6)  Military training areas;
 
19      (7)  Unencumbered state lands;

 1      (8)  Designated sanctuaries; and
 
 2      (9)  Other lands designated by the board."
 
 3      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
 4 New statutory material is underscored.
 
 5      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
