                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE CORRECTIONS POPULATION MANAGEMENT COMMISSION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 353F-4, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(a)  The corrections population management commission shall
 
 4 consist of [nine] ten members.  The state attorney general, the
 
 5 director of public safety, the prosecuting attorney of the city
 
 6 and county of Honolulu, the state public defender, [and] the
 
 7 chairperson of the Hawaii paroling authority, the president of
 
 8 the senate, and the speaker of the house of representatives, or
 
 9 their designated representatives, shall be members of the
 
10 commission. [Additionally, the] The chief justice of the Hawaii
 
11 supreme court shall appoint one judge and one adult probation
 
12 administrator of the judiciary as members of the commission.
 
13 [Finally, one member each shall be appointed by the president of
 
14 the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives.] The
 
15 governor shall appoint one member from the private sector who is
 
16 knowledgeable on issues pertaining to reintegrating offenders
 
17 into the community, and who shall be drawn from a list of
 
18 candidates nominated by members of the public."

 1      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.

 3      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
