                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO SCHOOL FEES.


BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  (a)  Any other law to the contrary
 
 2 notwithstanding, there is established a pilot project at
 
 3 Jefferson Elementary School whereby eighty per cent of all moneys
 
 4 collected by Jefferson Elementary School from rental fees for
 
 5 usage of facilities by private organizations or individuals shall
 
 6 be deposited with Jefferson Elementary School for use by the
 
 7 school rather than deposited into the State's general fund.
 
 8 These moneys include but are not limited to classroom, parking
 
 9 lot, auditorium, and dining room rental fees.
 
10      (b)  Rental fees collected by, deposited with, and expended
 
11 by Jefferson Elementary School shall be:
 
12      (1)  In accordance with the departments of education and
 
13           accounting and general service's rules; and
 
14      (2)  Approved by the departments of education and accounting
 
15           and general services.
 
16      (c)  The department of education's fee schedule shall not
 
17 apply to rental fees set by Jefferson Elementary School.
 
18      SECTION 2.  Jefferson Elementary School shall report to the
 
19 legislature the total rental fees collected and how the moneys
 
20 were expended pursuant to this pilot project no later than twenty

 1 days prior to the convening of the regular sessions of 2001 and
 
 2 2002.
 
 3      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval and
 
 4 shall be repealed on June 30, 2002.
