                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM CONFERENCE LEAVE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Chapter 398, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended
 
 2 by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to
 
 3 read as follows:
 
 4      "§398-    Individualized educational program conferences;
 
 5 leave.  An employee shall be entitled up to six hours of leave
 
 6 per conference from the employee's employer to attend an
 
 7 individualized educational program conference; provided that:
 
 8      (1)  The number of individualized educational program
 
 9           conferences shall not exceed two conferences per child
 
10           per year;
 
11      (2)  The employee makes a bona fide attempt to schedule the
 
12           individualized educational program conference during
 
13           nonwork hours; and
 
14      (3)  Proof of attendance is submitted to the employer."
 
15      SECTION 2.  Section 398-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
16 amended by adding a new definition to be appropriately designated
 
17 and to read as follows:
 
18      ""Individualized educational program conference" means a
 
19 conference at which the participants jointly develop an

 1 individualized educational program for the employee's child with
 
 2 a disability."
 
 3      SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
 4      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
