Distributes 50 percent of revenues from conveyance tax to

                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE CONVEYANCE TAX.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Act 170, Session Laws of Hawaii 1998, is amended
 
 2 by amending section 2 to read as follows:
 
 3      "SECTION 2.  Section 247-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 4 amended to read as follows:
 
 5      §247-7 Disposition of taxes.  All taxes collected under
 
 6 this chapter shall be paid into the state treasury to the credit
 
 7 of the general fund of the State, to be used and expended for the
 
 8 purposes for which the general fund was created and exists by
 
 9 law; provided that of the taxes collected each fiscal year[,
 
10 twenty-five]:
 
11      (1)        per cent shall be paid into the rental housing
 
12           trust fund established by section 201G-432 [and twenty-
 
13           five];
 
14      (2)        per cent shall be paid into the natural area
 
15           reserve fund established by section 195-9; provided
 
16           that the funds paid into the natural area reserve fund
 
17           shall be annually disbursed to the natural area
 
18           partnership and forest stewardship programs by the
 
19           department of land and natural resources after joint

 1           consultation with the forest stewardship committee and
 
 2           the natural area reserves system commission[.]; and
 
 3      (3)  Fifty per cent shall be paid to the housing and
 
 4           community development corporation of Hawaii for
 
 5           homeless shelter programs under part IV of chapter
 
 6           201G."
 
 7      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
 8 New statutory material is underscored.
 
 9      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 2, 1999;
 
10 provided that on June 30, 2001, this Act shall be repealed and
 
11 section 247-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is reenacted in the form
 
12 in which it existed on July 1, 1999.
