HB 377     RELATING TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT       TSM/EDB,HED,FIN
        Mandates integration of tourism marketing plans with
        existing and potential information and communication
        technology networks and services.  Creates a
        technology training or job creation tax credit.
        Establishes Hawaii Internet Exchange (HIE) in OTTED
        and includes the development of an internet exchange
        in state economic priority guidelines.  Includes in
        state planning priority guidelines for education, an
        increase in the availability of telecommunication
        equipment for the exchange of information and internet
        access.  Establishes an accelerated information
        technology education and training program within the
        UH.  Authorizes GO bonds to establish fiber optic
        connection to internet for UH and DOE.  (Case)

HB 1032    RELATING TO TAXATION                       TSM/EDB,FIN
        Creates a hotel remodeling tax credit through the 2001
        tax year to encourage hotel renovation, repair and
        refurbishment.  (Say)

HB 135     RELATING TO THE COUNTIES                       TSM,FIN
        Provides that counties may establish by ordinance,
        supplemental maintenance, safety, or security services
        assessment districts.  Exempts boards or associations
        created pursuant to the establishment of the
        assessment districts from the public procurement code.
        Sets time limits on the initiation of actions
        disputing the establishment and administration of the
        assessment districts.  (Say)

HB 753     RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT
        DISTRICTS                                      TSM,FIN
        Allows counties to enact ordinances to create special
        improvement districts to provide and finance
        supplemental maintenance and security services and
        such other improvements, services, and facilities
        within those districts as the county council finds
        will promote business activity and make and finance
        improvements.  (Chang)

HB 128     RELATING TO THE TRANSIENT ACCOMMODATIONS TAX   TSM,FIN
        Authorizes a county transient accommodations tax.
        Lowers the rate of the state transient accommodations
        tax.  Eliminates distribution of state transient
        accommodations revenues to counties.  Effective
        7/1/02.  (Nakasone)

HB 226     RELATING TO TRANSIENT ACCOMMODATIONS TAX       TSM,FIN
        Requires the counties to use all transient
        accommodations tax disbursed for projects impacting
        tourist areas.  (Chang)

HB 136     RELATING TO TAXATION                           TSM,FIN
        Establishes an income tax credit for the construction
        and renovation of qualified facilities within a
        hotel/resort-zoned district.  (Say)

HB 1014    RELATING TO TOURISM                            TSM,FIN
        Allows the Convention Center Authority (CCA) to sunset
        on June 30, 1999.  Assigns the responsibility to
        market, operate, manage, and maintain the Hawaii
        Convention Center facility to the Hawaii Tourism
        Authority.  Transfers the Convention Center Capital
        and Operations Special Funds to the Tourism Special
        Fund.  (Say)


 
HB 222     RELATING TO THE CONVENTION CENTER              TSM,FIN
        Makes the convention center authority law permanent.

HB 220     RELATING TO USE OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS BY BLIND VENDORS  
                                                       TSM,FIN
        Exempts convention center facility from use of public
        buildings by blind vendors law.  (Chang)

        Authorizes the department of land and natural
        resources to enter into 55-year leases for property
        within the Banyan Drive resort area.  (Chang)

HB 751     RELATING TO ACTIVITY PROVIDERS AND ACTIVITY DESKS
                                                       TSM,CPC
        Prohibits activity desks from receiving under-the-
        table compensation for selling a specific activity
        provider; requires activity desks to have both a trust
        account and a bond.  (Chang)
