        Authorizes the issuance of general obligation bonds
        for the repair, upgrading, and reconstruction of
        Saddle Road, Hawaii.  (IHARA, et al)

S.B. 494   MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE WOMEN IN       TIA,WAM
        MILITARY SERVICE FOR AMERICA MEMORIAL
        Appropriates $7,500 to the department of defense for
        fiscal year 1999-2000 as Hawaii's donation to the
        Women In Military Service For America Memorial at
        Arlington National Cemetery.  (LEVIN, et al)

S.B. 658   RELATING TO DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF     TIA,JDC
        DRUGS
        Changes definition of "drug" for purposes of DUI law.

S.B. 660 RELATING TO DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF  TIA,JDC 
        INTOXICATING LIQUOR
        Imposes a mandatory minimum consecutive jail sentence
        of 48 hours and not more than 30-days and a mandatory
        fine of $500 upon any person convicted for DUI who
        operated or assumed actual physical control of a
        vehicle with a passenger, in or on the vehicle, who
        was less than 18 years of age.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 662 RELATING TO REGISTRATION OF A TRAILER           TIA

 
 
        Extends from 20 to 30 days the period within which a
        person to whom registered ownership of a trailer is
        transferred.  Increases fees from $5 to $50 for
        issuance of new certificate of registration if
        transferee fails to comply.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B.  663  RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS         TIA
        Extends the time period for new motor vehicle
        registrations from 20 to 30 days after taking
        possession of the motor vehicle.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 664 RELATING TO SPECIAL LICENSE PLATES              TIA
        Allows the director of finance to discard and allow
        for new applications of inactive special number
        license plates that have not been assigned or
        registered during the preceding 3 years.  (KAWAMOTO,
        et al)

S.B. 665 RELATING TO MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE            TIA,CPN
        Includes course approved by armed services branch
        installation commander and that meets motorcycle
        safety foundation standards as a motorcycle education
        course for the purposes of qualifying for motorcycle
        liability coverage.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 666 RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION                TIA,EDU
        Mandates those required to register with the selected
        service system to do so in order to be eligible for
        admission into any public institution of higher
        education.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 667   RELATING TO HIGHWAYS                            TIA
        Permits the use of HOV lanes by all vehicles between
        the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Interstate
        Route H-1.  Permits the use of Zipper Lanes by
        vehicles carrying three and fewer passengers during
        specific hours.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 671 RELATING TO PASSENGER SAFETY                TIA,JDC
        Requires the use of seat belts in the back seat for
        individuals under age 18.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 672 RELATING TO PASSENGER SAFETY                TIA,JDC
        Requires the use of approved child safety seats for
        children under age 4, and use of seat belts in the
        back seat for individuals under age 18.  (KAWAMOTO, et
        al)

S.B. 674 RELATING TO POLICE ROADBLOCKS               TIA,JDC

 
 
 
 
        Provides that failure to comply scrupulously with
        police procedures that exceed the minimum statutory
        roadblock requirements will not invalidate a roadblock
        that otherwise meets the minimum statutory criteria.

S.B. 675 RELATING TO CONTRACTOR'S LICENSES           TIA,CPN
        Requires a state contracting license for federal
        construction projects in Hawaii.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 676 RELATING TO COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSES        TIA
        Permits the holder of a Type 3 driver's license to
        drive a motor vehicle with a gross rating of up to
        12,000 pounds and the holder of a Type 4 license to
        drive a motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight
        rating of 12,001 to 26,000 pounds.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 685 RELATING TO REGISTRATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES   TIA,JDC
        UNDER TWO OR MORE NAMES
        Repeals the requirement that a specific form be
        provided by the director of finance when registering a
        vehicle under two names that is not held in joint
        tenancy.  (KAWAMOTO, et al)

S.B. 686 RELATING TO VEHICLE HIGHWAY BEAUTIFICATION 
        FEE                                         TIA,WAM
        Increases from $1 to $2, the highway beautification
        fee collected from each motor vehicle registration.

S.B. 687 RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER LICENSING   TIA,JDC
        Establishes a graduated licensing procedure for
        persons under 17.

hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less
than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at

least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please
indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and
time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for
submittal.
