HB 1090    RELATING TO PUBLIC SAFETY.
        Transfers the responsibility of the administration of
        the night security program for selected public schools
        from the Department of Public Safety to the Department

HB 1196    RELATING TO THE RELEASE OF PRE-TRIAL INMATES.
        To extend the authority to grant emergency release of
        pre-trial inmates until June 30, 2000.    PSM/JHA, FIN

HB 1460    MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE VIDEO
        ARRAIGNMENT AND CONFERENCING SYSTEM.
        Appropriates funds for the expansion of a video
        arraignment and conferencing system in the circuit
        court of the third circuit and the Halawa correctional

HB 1492    RELATING TO OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION.
        Clarifies definition of "contraband" in the offense of
        promoting prison contraband in the 2nd degree to

 
        exclude dangerous instruments and drugs, which are
        covered in promoting prison contraband in the 1st

HB 645     RELATING TO VETERANS RIGHTS AND BENEFITS.
        Requires the comptroller, at the request of a deceased
        Filipino veteran's survivor or an interested party, to
        make payment directly to a mortuary or crematory for
        providing funeral and burial services; and for
        transporting the veteran's remains to the Philippines,
        upon submission of an unpaid invoice to the OVS.

HB 1298    RELATING TO BURIALS.
        Makes an appropriation for fiscal years 1999-2000 and
        2000-2001 to provide burial assistance to Filipino

        REQUESTING THE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO STUDY THE MERITS
        OF TRANSFERRING CONTROL OF ALL EDUCATIONAL
        INSTITUTIONS LOCATED ON UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
        DEFENSE FACILITIES AND ALL OTHER PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL
        INSTITUTIONS ATTENDED PREDOMINANTELY BY STUDENTS
        RESIDING ON U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE FACILITIES, TO
        THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.          PSM, EDN, FIN

HB 263     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE HAWAII NATIONAL GUARD
        YOUTH CHALLENGE PROGRAM.
        Appropriates funds for the Hawaii National Guard Youth
        Challenge Program for the fiscal biennium.    PSM, FIN

HB 1417    RELATING TO IMMUNITY FROM LIABILITY.
        Grants immunity from civil liability to persons who
        voluntarily allow their property to be used by civil
        defense authorities as a shelter during natural
        disasters, as well as during hostile actions, in the
        event of the death of or injury to a person or damage

HB 120     RELATING TO SEXUAL OFFENDERS.
        Provides for the imposition of extended terms of
        imprisonment for persistent and predatory sexual

HB 752     RELATING TO RESIDENTIAL DETENTION OF PREARRAIGNMENT
        DETAINEES.

 
 
 
 
 
        Transfers from the counties to the department of
        public safety the responsibility to provide
        residential detention for prearraignment detainees.

HB 789     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE KASHBOX PROGRAM.
        Appropriates funds to continue the KASHBOX substance
        abuse treatment program.                      PSM, FIN

HB 905     DEPORTATION OF PRISONERS.
        Expedites the deportation of prisoners in accordance
        with the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant
        Responsibility Act of 1996.                   PSM, FIN


HB 1194    RELATING TO THE CORRECTIONAL HEALTH CARE
        ADMINISTRATOR.
        Exempts the position of the Correctional Health Care
        Administrator within the Department of Public Safety
        from chapters 76 and 77, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

HB 1222    RELATING TO TAXATION.
        Tax credits for employers hiring recently released
        persons who have been incarcerated for conviction of

HB 1297    RELATING TO CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PERTAINING TO PUBLIC
        SAFETY.
        Appropriates funds for various capital improvement
        projects for the Public Safety and Military Affairs

HB 1659    RELATING TO THE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM.
        Provides deputy sheriffs with the same retirement
        benefits as police offices and firefighters.
