S.B. 635   RELATING TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING            LRE/JDC
        Provides for the use of substance abuse on-site
        screening tests (i.e., portable substance abuse tests)
        that meet the requirements of the United States Food
        and Drug Administration for commercial distribution.

FOR THE LRE/JDC JOINT HEARING ONLY, persons wishing to testify
should submit 45 copies (single sided, stapled, without holes) to
the LRE vice-chair's office, Room 217.

S.B. 1231  RELATING TO SMOKING IN THE WORKPLACE          HHS, LRE
        Requires employers with 5 or more employees to adopt a
        smoking policy to accommodate both smoking and
        nonsmoking employees.  This requirement does not apply
        to the dining areas of restaurants, bars, and hotel
        guest rooms.  In addition, prohibits smoking in state
        workplaces.


 
 


 
FOR THE LRE ONLY HEARING, persons wishing to testify should
submit 30 copies (single sided, stapled, without holes) of their
testimony to the LRE vice-chair's office, Room 217, State
Capitol, 24 hours prior to the hearing.

The following bills were heard on Tuesday, February 23, 1999: 

S.B. 1404  RELATING TO WASTEWATER REUSE                       LRE
        Defines "recycled water" and "reclaimed water" as
        water, which, as a result of treatment of waste is
        suitable for a direct beneficial use or a controlled
        use  that would not otherwise occur and is therefore
        considered a valuable resource.

S.B. 1537  RELATING TO MOTORIZED VEHICLES IN FOREST           LRE
        RESERVES AND CONSERVATION DISTRICTS
        Prohibits the use of motorized vehicles on
        conservation lands and forest reserves.

 TESTIMONY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR S.B. 1404 AND S.B. 1537.


Testimony for the hearings may also be faxed if less than 5 pages
in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or
1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24
hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please indicate the
date and time of the hearing, the required number of copies
needed for submittal, and that the testimony be delivered to the
LRE vice-chair's office, Room 217.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services
to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for
the disabled), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior
to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder.  A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the
measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for
shared use by members of the public.
