H.B. 1008  Relating to Tobacco Liability              HLT, FIN

        Proposes to: 1) require tobacco manufacturers who
        determine not to enter into the November 23, 1998
        "Master Settlement Agreement" with the State, to
        establish a reserve find to guarantee a source of
        compensation; and 2) prevent such manufacturers from
        deriving large, short-term profits, and then becoming
        judgement- proof. (Say B/R)

H.B. 1207  Relating to Cigarette Tax                  HLT, FIN

        Cures a technical defect in the cigarette and tobacco
        tax law to restore the tax exemption for sales of
        cigarettes and tobacco products to the United States
        or any instrumentality thereof (i.e., sales to the
        military). (Say B/R)

H.B. 1153  Relating to Retail Liquor Sales to         HLT, JHA
        Minors

        Allows person under twenty-one years of age to
        participate in authorized studies or enforcement of
        statutory provisions relating to the sale of liquor to
        minors. (Say B/R)


 


 
H.B. 324 Relating to Dental Hygienists              HLT, CPC

        Establishes the educational requirements for the
        administration of local anesthesia by dental
        hygienists.  Establishes documentation required for
        dental board certification of a hygienist to adminster
        anesthesia. (Santiago)

H.B. 1743  Making an Appropriation for a Dialysis     HLT, FIN
        Machine for Patients of the Hawaii
        Health Systems Corporation Residing on
        Molokai

        Appropriates funds for a dialysis machine for Molokai
        patients of the Hawaii health system corporation.

H.B. 1592  Making an Appropriation for the General    HLT, FIN
        Endowment of the Hawaii Health System
        Corporation

        Appropriates $2,000,000 in FY 1999-2000 and for each
        year thereafter for the duration of the 25-year period
        of the national tobacco settlement to the Hawaii
        health systems corporation as an endowment to allow
        HHSC to become self-sufficient. (Kanoho)

H.B. 331 Relating to Social Workers                 HLT, CPC

        Changes the scope of social worker licensing to
        include "bachelor's social worker." (Santiago)
