SB 1230  RELATING TO PRIVACY OF HEALTH CARE          HHS,JDC
        INFORMATION

        Establishes procedures for disclosure of health care
        records to protect the right of privacy while
        preserving necessary disclosures for health and
        safety.

SB 713   RELATING TO INFORMED CONSENT                HHS,JDC

        Clarifies the type of information required to be given
        by a provider to a patient prior to obtaining consent
        for medical treatment.  Establishes elements necessary
        to prove a breach of duty to obtain informed consent.

SB 136   RELATING TO GENETIC INFORMATION             HHS,CPN

        Defines "board certified genetics professional" and
        "genetic testing".  Prohibits long-term care insurer
        from requiring genetic testing as pre-condition for
        coverage and underwriting policy based on genetic
        information unless board certified genetics
        professional confirms actual risk to potential
        insured.

SB 1562  RELATING TO QUEST                           HHS,WAM

 
        Requires DHS to compensate community health centers
        treating QUEST patients based on risk factor

SB 824   RELATING TO OSTEOPOROSIS                    HHS,WAM

        Establishes an osteoporosis prevention and treatment
        education program within the Department of Health.
        Establishes interagency council on osteoporosis.
        Appropriates funds to DOH.

SB 233   RELATING TO A STUDY OF LATEX PRODUCTS IN    HHS,WAM
        HAWAII BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

        Requires DOH to conduct study regarding nature and
        extent of the dangers associated with the use latex
        products, the benefits of eliminating their use or
        requiring the use of low-protein latex products, and
        the potential costs of restricting the use of latex
        products.  Report to legislature by 11/30/99.

SB 1231  RELATING TO SMOKING IN THE WORKPLACE        HHS,LRE

        Requires employers with 5 or more employees to adopt a
        smoking policy to accomodate both smoking and
        nonsmoking employees.  This requirement does not apply
        to dining areas of restaurants, bars, and hotel guest
        rooms.  In addition, prohibits smoking in state
        workplaces.

SB 1257  RELATING TO TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY          HHS,WAM

        Appropriates moneys to the Department of Health to
        develop a statewide strategic plan for the treatment
        and rehabilitation of survivors with traumatic brain
        injuries; provides for matching funds; and moneys for
        a project coordinator.

SB 572   RELATING TO HEALTHCARE                      HHS,WAM

        Creates a healthcare provider hotline with the
        Department of Health to which healthcare providers may
        report a patient care situation that the healthcare
        provider reasonably believes is likely to result in
        harm to a patient.

SB 779   RELATING TO DENTAL HYGIENISTS               HHS,CPN

        Establishes the educational requirements for the
        administration of local anesthesia by dental
        hygienists.  Establishes documentation required for
        dental board certification of a hygienist to
        administer anesthesia.


 


 
SB 104   RELATING TO PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS            HHS,CPN

        Grants licenses to physician assistants who are
        nationally certified.

SB 988   RELATING TO MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL            HHS,CPN
        LICENSING

        Requires health care providers to provide specific
        information to their respective boards for

SB 363   RELATING TO HAZARDOUS WASTE                 HHS,LRE

        Requires the Department of Health to hold a public
        hearing to inform the public and allow community input
        before approving any permit regarding the dumping of
        medical waste in landfills.

SB 368   RELATING TO RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY OCCUPANCY   HHS,LRE

        Prohibits the Director of Health from issuing an air
        pollution control permit for a medical waste
        incinerator or a solid waste pollution permit for a
        medical waste sterilizer that is located within 1 mile
        of any residential dwelling.

Persons wishing to testify should submit 35 copies of their
testimony with two holes punched at the top to the committee
clerk, Room 228, State Capitol, 24 hours prior to the hearing.
Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to
the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659
(toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the
hearing.  When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is
being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the
required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services
to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for
the disabled), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior
to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder.  A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the
measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for
shared use by members of the public.
