HB 151     RELATING TO TEACHERS                       EDN/HED,FIN
        Appropriates funds to promote teaching as a career.

HB 251     RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII       HED/EDN,FIN
        Appropriates funds to the UH College of Education to
        expand and improve teacher training.

HB 253     RELATING TO TEACHER TRAINING               HED/EDN,FIN
        Appropriates funds to the University of Hawaii to
        increase the number of neighbor island teachers, K-12
        special education teachers, 7-12 mathematics, science,
        and vocational education teachers, and K-12 Hawaiian

 
        language immersion teachers, and to support the
        continuing professional development of teachers.

HB 387     RELATING TO EDUCATION                      HED/EDN,FIN
        Creates a task force to advise the governor and the
        legislature on strategies to develop an education
        industry in Hawaii.

HB 427     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION   HED,FIN
        Appropriates funds for higher education outreach
        programs on the neighbor islands, the West Hawaii
        University Center, and master's degree programs at the
        University of Hawaii at Hilo.

HB 428     RELATING TO TEACHER RECRUITMENT                HED,FIN
        Appropriates funds to the University of Hawaii to
        encourage prospective teachers into the teaching
        profession by developing and disseminating public
        service announcements that promote teaching as a
        fulfilling career.

HB 967     RELATING TO THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE COLLEGE  HED,JHA,FIN
        Authorizes the Hawaiian Language College to contract
        in the Hawaiian language directly with providers
        rather than contracting with RCUH.  Also repeals the
        prohibition from using general funds for the Hawaiian
        Language College.

HB 1053    RELATING TO PROGRAM EXECUTION                  HED,FIN
        To streamline government operations by removing an
        unnecessary reporting requirement from the University
        of Hawaii

HB 1218    MAKING EMERGENCY APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF
        HAWAII                                         HED,FIN
        To enable the University of Hawaii to meet its general
        fund fiscal obligations under HRS chapter 304 in
        fiscal year 1998-1999, by addressing the budgetary
        shortfall resulting from the transfer of fiscal year
        1997-1998 encumbrances to fiscal year 1998-1999 which
        was necessitated by the University of Hawaii having to
        pay its faculty members on June 30, 1998 instead of on
