        Making an emergency appropriation for Kapolei High

S.B. 1307  RELATING TO SCHOOL PERFORMANCE                  EDU
        Requires each school to adopt its own school
        performance standards and benchmarks to improve
        performance over its own previous levels and to inform
        the governor, the legislature, and parents at the
        start of each school year with a school report card.

S.B. 1270  RELATING TO EDUCATION                           EDU
        Gives the Dept. of Education more flexibility in
        regulating courses of study.

S.B. 1271  RELATING TO EDUCATION                      EDU, WAM
        Enables the Dept. of Education (DOE) to assess tuition
        to cover the expenses for supplemental, discretionary,
        out-of-school time instructional programs; exempts the
        DOE from transferring special funds for out-of-school
        time instructional programs to the general fund to
        cover central service expenses; exempts the DOE's out-
        of-school time instructional programs from having to
        reimburse the DOE for administrative expenses.

        Permits the Board of Education to determine the
        starting age for children entering kindergarten and
        first grade.

        TRAINEE

        Permits the conduct of criminal history checks for
        trainees, and to make such checks mandatory rather
        than discretionary.

S.B. 1276  RELATING TO SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION    EDU, WAM
        Transfers the responsibility for determining the
        salary of the Superintendent of Education from the
        Legislature to the Board of Education.

S.B. 1278  RELATING TO EDUCATION                      EDU, WAM
        Establishes alternative education options for students
        who are expelled, suspended or cause chronic
        disruption to the educational process.

hours prior to the hearing.  Please punch three (3) holes on the
left side of 10 copies and two (2) holes on the top of 15 copies
of your testimony.  Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5
pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-
6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least
24 hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please indicate to
whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the
hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services
to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for
the disabled), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior
to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder.  A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the
measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for
shared use by members of the public.
