HB 1578    RELATING TO MENTORING                          EDN,FIN
        Establishes a community/school-based pilot mentoring
        program at Nanakuli Intermediate and High School,
        Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School, and
        Samuel Wilder King Intermediate School.

HB 899     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR DRUG TREATMENT, COUNSELING
        AND INTERVENTION SERVICES AT KING INTERMEDIATE 
        SCHOOL                                         EDN,FIN
        Appropriates $90,000 in FY 1999-2000 and FY 2000-2001
        for substance abuse treatment, counseling, and
        intervention services at King intermediate school.

HB 1747    MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR KAPOLEI HIGH
        SCHOOL                                         EDN,FIN
        Authorizes start of construction for Kapolei High
        School prior to July 1, 1999 in order to complete
        Phase I of the school by the opening of school year
        2000-2001.

HB 110     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR KAPOLEI MIDDLE     EDN,FIN
        SCHOOL
        Makes an emergency appropriation for Kapolei Middle
        School.

HB 323     RELATING TO EDUCATION                          EDN,JHA

 
        Requires the DOE to adopt rules to define what it
        means for a student to "attend either a public or
        private school", with respect to students who attend
        private sectarian and nonsectarian schools, for the
        purposes of determining the student's compliance with
        the compulsory attendance law.

HB 560     RELATING TO HILO COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOR ADULTS   EDN,FIN
        Authorizes DOE to convert to permanent status two
        temporary positions at Hilo community school for
        adults.

HB 1619    RELATING TO THE COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL ALIENATION
        PROGRAM                                        EDN,FIN
        Appropriates funds to establish 7.00 FTE teacher
        positions in the central departmental school district
        for the comprehensive school alienation program.
        Requires these funds to be appropriated and allotted
        to the DOE through the school community service
        program and to be expended by Wahiawa community school
        for adults.

HB 408     RELATING TO SCHOOL BUSES                       EDN,FIN
        Provides school bus drivers with the appropriate
        supplies for blood-borne pathogen countermeasures.

HB 715     RELATING TO EDUCATION                          EDN,FIN
        Requires reduction of the ratio of students to
        teachers in kindergarten through grade 2, to not more
        than 20 to 1, beginning with the 1999-2000 fiscal
        year, and students in grades 3-12 to 26 to 1;
        appropriates $3.5 million.

HB 931     RELATING TO COACHES SALARIES                   EDN,FIN
        Converts stipend basis for coaches' salaries in public
        schools to salary base tied to collective bargaining.

HB 933     RELATING TO ATHLETIC HEALTH CARE SPECIALISTS   EDN,FIN
        Converts 15 temporary athletic health care specialist
        positions in department of education to permanent
        positions.
