HB 853     RELATING TO SCHOOL BASED BUDGETING             EDN,FIN
        Amends chapters 37 and 302A, HRS, to facilitate
        implementation of financing agreement authorizations
        and the kinds school-based budgeting. 

HB 415     RELATING TO CHILDREN                           EDN,FIN
        Requires parents of three year old children to have
        them assessed.

HB 519     RELATING TO HAWAII TEACHERS STANDARDS BOARD    EDN,FIN
        Provides for staggering the terms of the members of
        the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.

HB 532     RELATING TO GENDER EQUITY IN SPORTS        EDN,JHA,FIN
        Prohibits persons, on the basis of their sex, from
        being discriminated against in any interscholastic,
        club, or intramural athletics offered by a public
        school.  Prohibits public schools from providing
        athletics separately on the basis of sex.

HB 149     PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 2, OF THE
        HAWAII CONSTITUTION, TO CHANGE THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
        FROM AN ELECTED BOARD TO AN APPOINTED BOARD.   EDN,JHA
        Proposes a constitutional amendment to change the
        Board of Education from an elected board to an
        appointed board.

HB 150     RELATING TO EDUCATION                          EDN,JHA
        Amends statutory provisions to implement an appointed
        Board of Education.

HB 510     RELATING TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION             EDN,FIN
        Allows the BOE to employ its own attorneys without the
        approval of the AG.

HB 511     RELATING TO THE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDU-     EDN,JHA,FIN
        CATION
        Changes authority to set salary of superintendent of
        education from legislature to the BOE.

HB 512     RELATING TO EDUCATION                          EDN,FIN
        Repeals the sunset of the Hawaii Teacher Standards
        Board.

HB 308     RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS SPECIAL FEES AND    EDN,FIN
        CHARGES
        Allows the department of education to assess and
        collect special fees and charges from pupils for
        laboratory classes, including, but not limited to
        science, home economics, photography, and band
        classes.

HB 309     RELATING TO EDUCATION                          EDN,FIN
        Establishes the textbook deposit revolving fund into
        which shall be deposited a flat fee of not more than
        $         per student per school year to guarantee the
        timely return of any assigned textbooks, and to
        compensate the DOE for the negligent loss,
        destruction, breakage, or damage of any assigned
        textbooks.

HB 310     RELATING TO PLANNING AND BUDGETING OF NEW      EDN,FIN
        SCHOOLS
        Requires funding for coaches' salaries, athletic
        health care trainers, athletic equipment and supplies,
        and the transportation of athletic teams to be
        considered standard workload increase items when
        planning and budgeting for new public schools.
