S.B. 106      RELATING TO GOVERNMENT SERVICES                   EDU/LRE,WAM
           Requires the  school-to-work  executive  council to
           establish a clear mission statement, specific goals
           of the  program,  methods  of  appraising outcomes,
           methods to control  expenditures; to require proper
           implementation  of  Act  344,   SLH  1997;  and  to
           determine the effectiveness of safety studies.

S.B. 1475     RELATING TO THE SCHOOL-TO-WORK                   LRE/EDU, WAM
           OPPORTUNITIES PILOT PROJECT
           Transfers the administration and supervision of the
           school-to-work opportunities pilot project from the
           Hawaii   school-to-work   opportunities   executive
           council to the  DOE.    Makes the Hawaii school-to-
           work opportunities  executive  council  an advisory
           body to the BOE.

S.B. 173      RELATING TO SCHOOL-TO-WORK OPPORTUNITIES         LRE/EDU, WAM
           Provides  a   two-tiered   tax   credit  system  to
           employers  participating  in  school-to-work (STW);
           biennium appropriation  for  STW, including funding
           to increase  eight  regional  STW coordinators from
           ten to twelve months.

S.B. 548      RELATING TO SCHOOL-TO-WORK                        LRE/EDU,WAM
           Requires  standardized  worker  readiness  training
           approved by DLIR's HIOSH division.

S.B. 195      RELATING TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING                LRE/EDU, WAM
           Includes bargaining units 1,  5, and 7 in mechanism
           to  resolve   collective   bargaining  disputes  by
           mediation or arbitration.

 
S.B. 1275     RELATING TO CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTIONS             LRE/EDU, WAM
           Expands the current exemption from civil service to
           include employees  of  the  Department of Education
           engaged  in   the   distribution,  collection,  and
           counting  of student and adult meal tickets on less
           than half-time basis.

S.B. 1638     RELATING TO EDUCATIONAL OFFICERS                 LRE/EDU, WAM
           Addresses  inequities   of   pay   for  educational
           officers by removing the requirement that a teacher
           promoted to  educational  officer  shall receive at
           least   8%   pay    raise    and   establishing   a
           classification system for educational officers.
