SB 598        MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR DOMESTIC                 JDC, WAM
           VIOLENCE SERVICES
           Appropriates funds to  family  court to establish a
           dedicated domestic  violence  court  and to provide
           related domestic violence services.

SB 596        RELATINGTO VIOLENCE                                  JDC, WAM
           Establishes  a  protocol  for  the  development and
           implementation of death review  teams to review any
           adult domestic violence  and sexual assault-related
           deaths.

SB 590        RELATING TO RESTRAINING AND PROTECTIVE ORDERS             JDC
           Consolidates  laws  on  restraining  and protective
           orders and pend any  jail  sentence, except for the
           provides procedures on issuance  of orders, form of
           petition, temporary restraining orders, duration of
           restraining orders,  protective  orders, service of
           order, enforcement and penalties.

SB 591        RELATING TO CUSTODY AND VISITATION                        JDC
           Prohibits courts  from  ordering  visitation rights
           for a parent who  has  murdered the other parent of
           the child.

SB 589        RELATING TO DOMESTIC ABUSE                                JDC
           Creates a new offense of the commission of domestic
           abuse in the presence of a child.


 
 
 
 
 
 
SB 823        RELATING TO SENTENCING                                    JDC
           Requires courts, in certain domestic violence cases
           witnessed by minors, to  consider the fact that the
           crime was witnessed  by  a  minor as an aggravating
           factor  of  the  crime   in  imposing  a  sentence.
           Recommends the revision  of family court sentencing
           guidelines to  consider  two additional aggravating
           factors.

SB 593        RELATING TO THE HAWAII RULES OF EVIDENCE                  JDC
           Provides for admission of similar acts against same
           person in certain criminal cases.

SB 597        RELATING TO HARASSMENT                                    JDC
           Creates  a   new   petty   misdemeanor  offense  of
           harassment of family or household member.

SB 891        RELATING TO HARASSMENT                                    JDC
           Clarifies  the  basis   for  granting  a  temporary
           restraining  order;  increases  the  duration  of a
           temporary restraining order;  allows the service of
           a temporary  restraining  order  by certified mail;
           and includes "reckless" behavior as the basis for a
           misdemeanor violation, in cases of harassment.

SB 599        RELATING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE                             JDC
           Amends definition of family  or household member to
           include persons with a dating history.

SB 592        RELATING TO FIREARMS                                      JDC
           Modifies firearm prohibition  exemptions for police
           officers by excluding  from  the exemption officers
           convicted of an offense involving abuse of a family
           or household member.

SB 594        RELATING TO FIREARMS                                      JDC
           Repeals  good  cause  exemption  for  possession of
           firearms by  a  person  who  is  the  subject  of a
           restraining order. 

SB 595        RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE                            JDC
           Prohibits deferred  acceptance  of  guilty and nolo
           contendere  pleas   for   assault  3rd  convictions
           involving family or household members.

SB 920        RELATING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE                             JDC
           Makes any offense of abuse of a family or household
           member a class C felony if: committed subsequent to
           a 2nd  conviction;  or  committed  subsequent  to 2
           prior   convictions    for   assault,   terroristic
           threatening, or  abuse  of  a  family  or household
           member involving the same victim.

 
SB 921        RELATING TO DISTRICT COURT                                JDC
           Eliminates requirement  that  multiple  offenses be
           charged  "through  complaint  or  indictment"  with
           respect to district court's concurrent jurisdiction
           of abuse of  family  or  household member offenses,
           when multiple offenses  are  involved,  of which at
           least  one  is  within   the  jurisdiction  of  the
           district court.
