SB 826     RELATING TO GENDER EQUITY IN SPORTS               EDU, WAM
           Prohibits persons, on the  basis of their sex, from
           being discriminated against in any interscholastic,
           club, or intramural  athletics  offered by a public
           school.   Prohibits  public  schools from providing
           athletics separately on the basis of sex.

SB 951     RELATING TO EMPLOYEE BENEFIT PLANS                EDU, WAM
           Authorizes  the  University   of   Hawaii  and  the
           department  of  education  to  establish  custodial
           accounts for  the  deposit  of  annuity payments of
           employees  of  the  University  of  Hawaii  and the
           department of education.

SB 113     RELATING TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION                EDU, WAM
           Establishes a commission to  design and recommend a
           means  of  electing   members   of   the  board  of
           education.

SB 184     RELATING TO EDUCATION                             EDU, JDC
           Proposes to make the student member of the Board of
           Education a voting member.

SB 473     PROPOSING AMENDMENTS TO ARTICLE X OF THE           EDU,JDC
           CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF HAWAII TO ABOLISH THE STATE
           BOARD OF EDUCATION AND REPLACE IT WITH DISTRICT BOARDS OF
           EDUCATION THAT ARE ELECTED AT-LARGE AND IN A NONPARTISAN
           MANNER BY THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS, AND A
           STATE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR
           Proposes   amendments   to   Article   X   of   the
           Constitution of the State  of Hawaii to abolish the
           dtate  board  of  education  and  replace  it  with

 
           district boards of education  that are elected atin
           a nonpartisan  manner  by  the  qualified voters of
           school districts that are established by law.

SB 574     PROPOSING AMENDMENTS TO THE HAWAII CONSTITUTION   EDU, JDC
           RELATING TO EDUCATION
           Proposes amendments to  the  Hawaii Constitution to
           abolish the board of  education and provide for the
           election of the superintendent of education.

SB 1203    RELATING TO EDUCATION                             EDU, WAM
           Establishes a local  district  school board in each
           departmental   school   district   to   respond  to
           recommendations, resolutions,  and suggestions from
           the BOE and  the  superintendent,  and to work with
           the district superintendent  of the school district
           represented by the  local  district school board on
           matters concerning education.

SB 456     RELATING TO TUITION WAIVERS                   EDU/WLH, WAM
           Waives tuition for 500 additional Hawaiian students
           in the University of  Hawaii system. Gives priority
           to those  Hawaiian  students  who  are  enrolled in
           Hawaiian   language    courses,    education,   are
           financially  needy,  or  participating  in  student
           recruitment programs.
