SB 507     RELATING TO EDUCATION                             EDU, WAM
           Establishes charter schools.

SB 1277    RELATING TO STUDENT-CENTERED SCHOOLS              EDU, WAM
           Increases the accountability of local school boards
           for  the   results   produced  by  student-centered
           schools. Ensures equitable funding among all public
           schools.

SB 1318    RELATING TO NEW CENTURY SCHOOLS                   EDU, WAM
           Requires that all schools designated as New Century
           Schools: (1) have  a  governing  board appointed by
           the  Governor;  (2)   be   exempt  from  collective
           bargaining and state  procurement  code; and (3) be
           provided a budget in lump sum with the authority to
           transfer funds for  purposes  as  determined by the
           school.

SB 1501    RELATING TO EDUCATION                             EDU, WAM
           Requires the  DOE  to  enter  into  agreements with
           qualified   private   nonprofit   corporations   to
           construct,  manage,  and  operate  a  pilot charter
           school.       Requires    the   planning,   design,
           construction, and equipping of, and the acquisition
           of lands for, the charter  school  to be done at no
           cost to the State.

SB 1009    RELATING TO PUBLIC ACCESS                         EDU, WAM
           Appropriates $34,500  for  a  legislative streaming
           media pilot project.

SB 1171    RELATING TO THE INTEGRATED TAX INFORMATION        EDU, WAM
           MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ACQUISITION BY THE
           DEPARTMENT OF TAXATION
           Creates a special  fund  to  pay for the integrated
           tax information  management  systems,  and  for the
           operation, maintenance, monitoring, and improvement
           of the automated tax system.

SB 553     RELATING TO THE OKINAWAN CENTENNIAL               EDU, WAM
           CELEBRATION COMMISSION
           Appropriation    to    the    Okinawan   Centennial
           Celebration Commission.

SB 577     ESTABLISHING A COMMISSION TO CELEBRATE THE        EDU, WAM
           ONE-HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARRIVAL OF               
           THE PUERTO RICANS TO HAWAII
           Establishes a  commission  to  celebrate  the 100th
           anniversary of  the  arrival  of  Puerto  Ricans to
           Hawaii.

SB 826     RELATING TO GENDER EQUITY IN SPORTS               EDU, WAM
           Prohibits persons, on the  basis of their sex, from
           being discriminated against in any interscholastic,
           club, or intramural  athletics  offered by a public
           school.   Prohibits  public  schools from providing
           athletics separately on the basis of sex.

SB 951     RELATING TO EMPLOYEE BENEFIT PLANS                EDU, WAM
           Authorizes  the  University   of   Hawaii  and  the
           department  of  education  to  establish  custodial
           accounts for  the  deposit  of  annuity payments of
           employees  of  the  University  of  Hawaii  and the
           department of education.
