SB 757     RELATING TO COMPUTER SYSTEMS WHICH ARE     EDU/CPN,JDC
        NOT YEAR 2000 COMPLIANT.
        Provides immunity  to  private  persons  or businesses
        from suits arising  out  of  failure  or  error from a
        computer system  after  6/30/99  as  a  result  of the
        system's not being Year 2000 compliant.

SB 1320    RELATING TO YEAR 2000 ERRORS BY COMPUTER-  EDU/CPN,JDC
        BASED SYSTEMS.
        Provides   protection   for   persons   who   exercise
        commercially reasonable efforts  to  identify and find
        solutions  for  computer-based  systems  that  may  be
        affected by Year 2000 errors.

SB 1598    RELATING TO THE CITIZENS YEAR 2000 FINANCIALEDU/CPN,JD
        C
        FINANCIAL PROTECTION ACT.
        Temporarily  prohibits   foreclosures,   defaults,  or
        adverse action on  various financial transactions, and
        prohibits  adverse  or  enforcement  action  on  these
        matters  as  a  result  of  Y2K  problems.   Prohibits
        negative  entries   in   credit   reports.    Repealed
        6/30/2006.


THE FOLLOWING BILLS ARE  FOR  DECISION  MAKING  ONLY BY THE JOINT

SB 1182    RELATING TO THE UH OPTIONAL RETIREMENT     EDU/CPN,WAM
        SYSTEM.

 
                  Restricts participation  in  the  University of Hawaii
                  Optional Retirement System  to  the  faculty and those
                  who would be in  Unit  07 but for their administrative
                  or other excluded positions.
       
       
       
       SB 367     RELATING TO RETIREMENT BENEFITS.           CPN/EDU,WAM
                  Allows  UH   athletic   coaches   to   participate  in
                  alternative retirement plans (401(k)) other than those
                  offered by the ERS.  Requires  UH to pay to such plans
                  the amount it  would  have  paid  to  the ERS for such
                  employee.
       
       SB 1238    RELATING TO PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS.   CPN/EDU,WAM
                  Transfers responsibility for  licensure and regulation
                  of acupuncture,  barbering,  cosmetology, massage, and
                  real estate schools from DOE to DCCA.
       
       CONTINUATION OF PUBLIC HEARING ON CPN BILLS:
       
       SB 650     RELATING TO HARASSMENT.                        CPN,JDC
                  Makes the unlawful  use  of computerized communication
                  systems for the purpose  of harassing another person a
                  misdemeanor, and makes  the  sender's property subject
                  to forfeiture.
       
       SB 1279    RELATING TO THE UNIVERSAL SERVICE FUND.        CPN,WAM
                  Clarifies the status of the universal service fund and
                  improves fund  administration  which  is designated to
                  provide basic telecommunications services.
       
       
                  DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW, IF TIME PERMITS.
       
       
       Persons wishing to  testify  should  submit 35 copies (three-hole
       punched) of their  testimony  to  the  committee clerk, Room 414,
       State Capitol, 24 hours prior  to the hearing. Testimony may also
       be faxed if less than 5  pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-
       At-Arms Office  at  586-6659  or  1-800-586-6659  (toll  free for
       neighbor islands), at least 24 hours  prior to the hearing.  When
       faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted,
       the date and time  of  the  hearing,  and  the required number of
       copies needed for submittal.
       
       If you require special  assistance  or auxiliary aids or services
       to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
       interpreter, wheelchair accessibility,  or parking designated for
       the disabled), please contact the  committee clerk 24 hours prior
       to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
       
       Public Folder.  A  folder  labeled "Public Folder" containing the
       measures and testimonies for  the  hearing  will be available for
       shared use by members of the public.
