SB 957     RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE       CPC/HSH, FIN
SD 2       Extends reporting date to the legislature and governor
        of motor vehicle insurance benefits task force to June
        30, 2002.    Requires  task  force  to balance maximum
        coverage  and  benefits  for  motor  vehicle  accident
        victims with lowest  possible  cost  for motor vehicle
        insurance purchasers.    Also  expands  free insurance
        coverage   to   include   certain   public  assistance
        recipients.

 
SB 949     RELATING TO THE UNIFORM UNINCORPORATED
SD 1, HD 1 NONPROFIT ASSOCIATION                EDB, CPC/JHA, FIN
        Adopts    the    Uniform    Unincorporated   Nonprofit
        Association   Act.      Provides   that   a  nonprofit
        association  is  a  legal  entity  separate  from  its
        members for purposes of transferring real and personal
        property, tort  and  contractual  liability, and legal
        standing.

SB 1048    RELATING TO FOSTER BOARDING HOMES        HSH, CPC, FIN
SD 2       Clarifies  definition  of   "foster  boarding  homes";
        requires criminal history record  checks for first two
        years of  certification  and  annually  and biennially
        thereafter depending  on  the  certification status of
        the home.

SB 1076    RELATING TO INSURANCE PREMIUM TAXES      HSH, CPC, FIN
        Allows insurance companies  to  utilize the low-income
        housing tax credit to offset insurance premium taxes.

SB 1079    RELATING TO PERMIT PROCESSING            EDB, CPC, FIN
SD 1, HD 1 Changes  the  name  of  the  consolidated  application
        process to the  facilitated  application process; adds
        county representation to  the  task force; and sunsets
        the task force on June 30, 2002.

SB 1140    RELATING TO BUSINESS REGISTRATION        EDB, CPC, FIN
SD 2, HD 1 Clarifies and updates the business registration laws.

SB 1142    RELATING TO THE NAMES OF CORPORATIONS, PARTNERSHIPS,
SD 2, HD 1 AND LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANIES          EDB, CPC, FIN
        Allows a  corporation,  partnership, limited liability
        partnership, or limited liability company to obtain an
        order of abatement from  the  director of commerce and
        consumer  affairs  against  an  entity  registering or
        using a  name  substantially  identical or confusingly
        similar to its own name.

SB 1279    RELATING TO THE UNIVERSAL SERVICE FUND   EDB, CPC, FIN
SD 2, HD 1 Establishes the USF  as  a  separate  fund outside the
        State treasury;  exempts  the  USF from administrative
        surcharges; provides for repayment of moneys loaned to
        the USF when  sufficient  moneys  are collected in the
        USF;  and  appropriates  $300,000  from  USF  for  the
        universal service program.

SB 41      RELATING TO TEACHERS                     EDN, CPC, FIN
SD 1, HD 1 Extends  the  sunset  date   for  the  Hawaii  teacher
        standards board and the law providing for the issuance
        of certificates to  teachers  who  are not required to
        obtain  a  license  or  credential  from  the  teacher
        standards board to  June  30, 2010; provides staggered
        terms for new members.

 
SB 1021    RELATING TO CLINICAL LABORATORY PERSONNEL     CPC, FIN
        Clarifies  the  categories  of  licensure  of clinical
        laboratory personnel.                                 

SB 1235    RELATING TO CONSUMER PROTECTION               CPC, FIN
SD 1       Creates temporary governor's task force on alternative
        medicine to  examine  current  scientific  research to
        determine the benefits and harmful effects, if any, of
        the various forms  of  alternative medicine.  Findings
        and recommendations to the governor and legislature by
        11/30/99.
