Sir:

     Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.R.
No. 45, S.D. 1, entitled:

     "SENATE RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII
     COMMUNITY COLLEGES TO ESTABLISH AND OPERATE THE PACIFIC
     CENTER FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY TRAINING AND EDUCATION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this Resolution is to request the University
of Hawaii to establish and operate the Pacific Center for
Advanced Technology Training and Education to serve as a resource
for new businesses in need of a tecnologically competent
workforce.

     Your Committee finds that the University of Hawaii Community
Colleges have the demonstrated resources and capability to
provide technology training programs that meet the needs of
national and international high technology businesses and
industry.

     Furthermore, your Committee finds that the training programs
are necessary to attract high technology businesses to the new
technology parks being developed across the State.  Your
Committee believes that the development of a high technology
industry in the State will diversify and strengthen the State's
economy.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your
Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.R. No. 45,
