                                   RE: S.C.R. No. 110
                                        S.D. 1

Honorable Norman Mizuguchi
President of the Senate
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 1999
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred
S.C.R. No. 110, S.D. 1, entitled:

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE HAWAII
COUNCIL OF HERITAGE AND CULTURE CONSIDER A MONTH-LONG
CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF HAWAII'S DIVERSE CULTURES,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this Concurrent Resolution is to request the
Hawaii Council of Heritage and Culture to consider a month-long
celebration in honor of Hawaii's diverse cultures.

Your Committee finds that honoring the different cultures in
Hawaii will showcase the contributions of many ethnic groups and,
in particular, will benefit the children of our State by
encouraging and teaching a better understanding of and an
increased tolerance for diversity. In addition, your Committee
notes that a month-long celebration in honor of Hawaii's diverse
cultures would assist in the promotion of the State's visitor
industry and may help to stimulate further economic development.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your
Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 110,
S.D. 1, and recommends its adoption.
