Sir:

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B. No.
1256, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO AN INTERISLAND FERRY SYSTEM,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this bill is to provide funds to match
$3,000,000 in federal funds from the Federal Transit
Administration to establish an interisland ferry system between
Maui and Molokai.

     The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, the State Representative
from the 7th District, and a council member from the County of
Maui testified in support of this measure.  The Department of
Transportation testified in support of the intent of this
measure.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your
Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No.
1256, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
