Sir:

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No.
333, H.D. 1, entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR AGRICULTURE,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this bill is to appropriate funds for
research and development of various agricultural commodities.

     The College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, the
Pineapple Growers Association of Hawaii, the Hawaii Farm Bureau
Federation, the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers, Hawaii Florists
and Shippers' Association, the Hawaii Macadamia Nut Association,
the Hawaii Anthurium Industry Association, the Big Island Banana
Growers Association, and the Big Island Farm Bureau testified in
support of the bill.  Hawaii Agriculture Research Center
supported the intent of the bill.  The Department of Agriculture
submitted comments.

     Your Committee has amended this bill by changing the
appropriation amount to $1 per project, or $9 total, for the
purpose of continued discussion.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your
Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No.
333, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third
Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 333, H.D. 2.
