RELATING TO VIOLENCE AGAINST EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL.

Adds violence or the threat of violence against emergency medical services personnel to the offenses of assault in the second degree and terroristic threatening in the first degree. Eff. on approval.  (SD1)

RELATING TO CHILD ENDANGERMENT.

Establishes a motor vehicle violation that prohibits leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle.  Requires the examiner of drivers to test driver's license applicants for knowledge of this offense.  (HB356 HD2)

RELATING TO CHILD PROTECTION.

Provides immunity from prosecution to persons who leave an unharmed newborn at a hospital, fire station, or police station, or with emergency services personnel within 72 hours of the child's birth; provides immunity from liability to the hospital, fire station, or police station, or personnel who receive the newborn; requires that the person who leaves a newborn provide written information on the family medical history of the child; and requires the personnel to make a reasonable effort to obtain certain information regarding the child from the person leaving the child.  (SD1)

RELATING TO DESIGN PROFESSIONALS.

Provides for a design claims conciliation panel, which would render an advisory determination on any claim against a design professional for failure to meet the standard of care.  (SD1)

Persons wishing to testify should submit testimony in one of the following ways at least 24 hours prior to the hearing:

 

·         In person: 30 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 227, State Capitol.

 

·         By fax:  Testimony may be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the number of copies needed for submittal.

 

·         By Email:  Testimony may be emailed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Legislature's Public Access Room at testimony@capitol.hawaii.gov.  Please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the number of copies needed for submittal.  In addition, please provide the testifier's name and mailing address in the email.  Email sent to individual offices or any other Senate office will not be accepted.

 

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter or wheelchair accessibility), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

 

Public Folder.  A folder labeled “Public Folder” containing the measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for shared use by members of the public.
