RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Authorizes the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board to suspend its rules when extenuating circumstances require.  (Senate companion bill No. SB 100 SD1)

RELATING TO TEACHERS.

Provides greater incentives for National Board Certified teachers to work at schools in restructuring under the No Child Left Behind Act, by giving them an unspecified bonus per year.  Appropriates funds.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Creates the facilities alignment commission to establish criteria for the selection of public schools to be constructed, expanded, consolidated, or closed, and recommend, based upon these criteria, a list of areas for new school construction, and of schools for expansion, consolidation, or closure.  Allows the legislature to disapprove these recommendations only in their entirety.  If no legislative disapproval occurs, requires the board of education to comply with these recommendations.  (Senate companion bill No. SB 690 SD1 )

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Establishes food distribution program revolving fund to support the administration and operation of the food distribution program.  Fund is not to exceed $2,000,000 from revenues generated.  Makes appropriation.  (Senate companion bill No. 94 SD2)

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Repeals provisions that transfer functions from the Department of Budget and Finance to the Department of Education as specified in the Reinventing Education Act of 2004.  (Senate companion bill No. 79 SD2)

·         In person:  35 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 230, State Capitol.

 

·         By fax:  Testimony may be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  When faxing, please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the number of copies needed for submittal.

 

·         By Email:  Testimony may be emailed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Legislature's Public Access Room at testimony@capitol.hawaii.gov.  Please indicate to which committee the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the number of copies needed for submittal.  In addition, please provide the testifier's name and mailing address in the email.  Email sent to individual offices or any other Senate office will not be accepted.

 

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter or wheelchair accessibility), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

 

Public Folder.  A folder labeled “Public Folder” containing the measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for shared use by members of the public.
