The purpose of the informational briefing is to receive testimonies regarding the status of the Hawaii P-20 Initiative. Kathy Jaycox, Interim Executive Director for the Hawaii P-20 Initiative, will report on the progress of the P-20 Initiative and its current priorities: P-3 Initiative, Access with Success Initiative, and building organizational capacity for the P-20 Initiative. Kati Haycock, Director of the Education Trust in Washington, D.C., will provide a national context for the P-20 priorities, particularly the Access with Success Initiative. She will share results of the EdTrust's recent studies on the achievement gap in higher education access with success, including Hawaii's data. Tammi Chun, Director of GEAR UP Hawaii, will share a success in the "Access with Success Initiative," reporting results of the GEAR UP Scholars Program which demonstrate that Hawaii's youth can overcome barriers to college.
