§76-32 Educational and certain other leaves.
Any regular employee may be granted a leave of absence not to exceed one year by the department head in order to pursue a course of instruction, to engage in research, or otherwise to improve the employee's ability and increase the employee's fitness for public employment. When the employee has carried out the plan stated by the employee at the time the leave was granted, the employee shall have the right to return to the employee's position at the expiration of the employee's leave of absence. The leave may for good cause be extended for a period not to exceed one year but in that event, all of the original conditions of the leave shall be complied with. Leaves of absence may also be granted by the appointing authority to regular employees for such other reasons or to nonregular employees as may be provided by rule and in such cases the employee shall have the right to return to the employee's position at the expiration of the employee's leave.
