We’re looking for energetic, curious, and team-oriented people to join our staff for the next Legislative Session. You’ll work closely with elected officials, witness important decision-making, and gain skills you can take anywhere.

Dates:
Legislative Session from December/January through May (Temporary Full & Part Time Positions)
Hours:
Schedules are determined by individual offices, but most full-time temporary positions follow standard office hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Some evenings and weekends may be needed to meet deadlines.
Legislative Aide
Make connections. Keep things moving. Help Hawaiʻi’s people be heard.
What You’ll Do:
- Help constituents get answers and connect them with resources.
- Coordinate meetings, public hearings, and tours for students or community groups.
- Track the progress of bills and share updates.
- Assist with correspondence and light research.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Are organized, friendly, and professional with people from all walks of life.
- Have Microsoft Word/Excel experience.
Committee Clerk / Researcher
Be the go-to for keeping legislative work on track.
What You’ll Do:
- Review and summarize bills, reports, and other documents.
- Help draft resolutions and committee reports.
- Prepare testimony packets for hearings.
- Coordinate hearings and meetings.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Can interact professionally with lawmakers, staff, and the public.
- Are comfortable juggling multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Have Microsoft Word/Excel experience.
Program Budget Analyst
Help decide where Hawaiʻi’s dollars go.
What You’ll Do:
- Review and analyze state budgets and funding requests.
- Prepare budget documents, reports, and worksheets for legislators.
- Provide clear, concise analysis for decision-making.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Have strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Are comfortable working with numbers and policy side-by-side.
- Can keep calm and focused during high-pressure deadlines.
- Are available to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Data Entry Clerk
Turn precision into impact.
What You’ll Do:
- Organize & input important legislative information.
- Proof details on documents as they are being entered.
- Be the quality checkpoint that keeps legislative information clear and trustworthy.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Type at least 40 wpm and have Microsoft Word skills.
- Learn office procedures quickly.
- Enjoy working independently.
- Are available to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Receptionist
Be the welcoming face and voice of the Capitol.
What You’ll Do:
- Greet visitors and answer phones with professionalism.
- Direct inquiries and assist with basic office tasks.
- Keep the front desk running smoothly.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Have great customer service skills and a friendly phone manner.
- Can juggle conversations and tasks without missing a beat.
Service Aide
Keep the Capitol safe, organized, and moving.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist with security, crowd control, and public safety.
- Help with deliveries, moving furniture, cleaning, or sorting mail.
- Work as part of a team to keep operations smooth.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Are dependable, follow instructions well, and work well with others.
- Enjoy a role that keeps you active and on your feet.
Support Staff for Remote Hearings
What You’ll Do:
- Manage Zoom participation for public hearings.
- Control livestreams to YouTube.
- Troubleshoot tech issues and guide participants through the process.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Have strong computer skills and learn new tools fast.
- Communicate clearly with everyone from community members to elected officials.
- Enjoy solving problems in real time.
* Training will be provided. Prior hearing or video production experience is a plus.
Legislative Attorney
Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in Hawaiʻi (J.D. required). Experience in criminal law, regulation, consumer protection, Native Hawaiian issues, or rehabilitation desirable.
What You’ll Do:
- Draft bills, resolutions, reports, memos and legal opinions.
- Research and interpret laws under tight deadlines.
- Work closely with legislators and staff to shape policy.
You’ll thrive if you:
- Excel at reading and understanding complex information.
- Enjoy using your analytical, research, and writing skills.
- Can juggle multiple projects and stay calm under pressure.
Salaries for full-time non-attorney positions range from $2,240 - $4,400 depending upon responsibilities and applicants' qualifications. Optional health benefits available.
