Seeking energetic, outgoing, and team-oriented individuals interested in participating in the legislative process. The following temporary positions are for the 2025 Legislative Session.

Should the Legislature recess prematurely due to a COVID-19 related shutdown, employment may be terminated prior to any originally-anticipated end of employment date.

LEGISLATIVE AIDE
Support general office operations as directed. Assist with constituent concerns and meetings. Handle inquiries concerning the status of legislation. Process a variety of correspondence. Conduct light research as directed. Coordinate meetings and public hearings. Coordinate legislative activities and tours for student and constituent groups as needed. The ability to interact with government officials and the general public is required. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred. Long hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
COMMITTEE CLERK/RESEARCHER
Digest legislation and review various documents. May draft resolutions and committee reports. Handle inquiries concerning the status of legislation. Coordinate meetings and public hearings. Assemble and prepare bills and testimony for hearings. The ability to interact with government officials and the general public is required. Perform other duties as directed. Long hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
PROGRAM BUDGET ANALYST
Perform review and analysis of state government budgets and funding requests submitted by state departments, agencies, and legislative committees. Prepare budget documents, committee reports, and related worksheets for review and approval by the Legislature. Perform other duties as directed. Requires strong analytical and critical thinking, writing, and communication skills. Must be able to work long hours, including weekends and holidays. The ability to interact with government officials and the general public is required. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
CLERK/DATA-ENTRY CLERK
Requires knowledge of standard office practices and communication skills. Ability to learn quickly and work independently. Detail-oriented problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically preferred. Some extended hours may require very flexible availability. Must type at least 40 wpm. Strong Microsoft Word for Office 365 skills preferred.
RECEPTIONIST
Requires excellent communication and customer service skills with pleasant telephone etiquette. Should possess knowledge of standard office practices. Minimal typing and clerical services.
SERVICE AIDE
Seeking service-oriented individuals who are prompt, follow instructions, and work well with others. Responsibilities include security, crowd control, and public safety activities. May also include some lifting, moving furniture, delivering, cleaning, sorting mail, and other similar activities.
SUPPORT STAFF FOR REMOTE HEARINGS (Testimony Coordinators & Live Streamers)
Individuals with strong computer skills and extensive experience using Zoom are needed to support remote participation for public hearings and control live streaming to YouTube. Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to multitask, learn new applications and procedures quickly, and communicate clearly and professionally with a wide variety of people, including elected officials, legislative staff, and the public. Prior experience with legislative hearings, IT support, and/or multi-camera video production is desirable, however we will provide training. Staff will be working in person at the State Capitol.
LEGISLATIVE ATTORNEY
Individuals with strong reading comprehension, analytical, research, and writing skills to draft legislative bills, resolutions, committee reports, research memos, or legal opinions. Requires the ability to work quickly and efficiently, interpret and digest statutory language, multitask and manage several projects at one time, maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, and develop a working relationship with elected officials and their staff with an even temperament, all under the strict deadlines of the legislative session. As the legislative calendar and filing deadlines dictate, a willingness to work late on weekdays, weekends, and holidays and also assist in completing the workload of colleagues may be required. Strong typing skills, extensive experience with Microsoft Word, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Westlaw are favorable. Some training to be provided, but familiarity with the state legislative process and procedures is helpful. Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and be licensed and in good standing to practice in the State of Hawaii. Experience in criminal law, incarceration, rehabilitation, government regulation, consumer protection and Native Hawaiian issues are desirable. (Salary range: $4,000 – 6,000, commensurate with experience.)

Salaries for full-time non-attorney positions range from $2,240 - $4,200 depending upon responsibilities and applicants' qualifications. Optional health benefits available.
